<p>As we&#x2019;re ramping up to a&#xA0;<strong>Long Term Support</strong>&#xA0;release, this is a particularly important UGJ and we need all hands on deck to ensure that it does not only meet, but exceeds the high quality standard of previous Ubuntu LTS releases. <p>Our LoCo is language-oriented, and by language I mean Catalan (a Romanic one), not Perl or Python. In fact, the <a href="http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/ubuntu.cat?ref=davidplanella.org">Catalan LoCo Team</a> was <mark>the first language-oriented LoCo to be approved back in 2007</mark>.</p>
<p>We manage our day-to-day in three <em>mailing lists</em>: <code>technical doubts</code> , <code>team work</code> and <code>translations</code> and do <em>IRC meetings twice a month</em>. We organise <em>Ubuntu Global Jam events every 6 months</em> (with some minor absences) and of course great <a href="http://davidplanella.wordpress.com/2010/05/26/ubuntu-lucid-release-party-in-valencia?ref=davidplanella.org">release</a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/siscogarcia/sets/72157625364493190/?ref=davidplanella.org">parties</a> <a href="http://vimeo.com/23440224?ref=davidplanella.org">every</a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/siscogarcia/6336353521/in/set-72157627984687727/?ref=davidplanella.org">6 months</a> along with <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/siscogarcia/sets/72157622631857891/?ref=davidplanella.org">some other little ones in between</a>.</p>
<h3 id="whatkindofeventareyouorganizingforthisubuntuglobaljam">What kind of event are you organizing for this Ubuntu Global Jam?</h3>
<p>As always, we will <strong>translate</strong> some new packages, discuss translation items, a <strong>bug triage</strong> session, some <strong>install</strong> release work and even <strong>evangelization</strong> to some passing people, as we organise <a href="http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/ubuntu.cat/1547/detail?ref=davidplanella.org">UGJ this time in a civic centre</a>.</p>
<h3 id="isthisthefirstugjeventyoureorganizing">Is this the first UGJ event you&apos;re organizing?</h3>
<p>No, it&apos;s not, <mark>we are running UGJs since the first one</mark> and I think we only missed last one.</p>
<h3 id="howdoyouthinkugjeventshelptheubuntucommunityandubuntu">How do you think UGJ events help the Ubuntu community and Ubuntu?</h3>
<p>It&apos;s a great opportunity for meeting people you only know by email or chat. Also, as we sit down together, there is little room for procrastination. Well, more or less, anyway.</p>
<h3 id="whydoyouthinkjonobaconalwaysfeaturespicturesofthecatalanteamwhenannouncingtheugjaretheythemostgoodlookingloco">Why do you think Jono Bacon always features pictures of the Catalan team when announcing the UGJ? Are they the most good-looking LoCo?</h3>

<h3 id="tellusabitaboutyourlocoteam">Tell us a bit about your LoCo team</h3>
<p>The <a href="http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/ubuntu-si?ref=davidplanella.org">Slovenian Ubuntu LoCo team</a> was founded in 2005 and we try to <strong>spread Ubuntu</strong> mainly by <strong>translation work</strong>&#xA0;and <strong>help and support</strong> to Slovenian Ubuntu users who don&apos;t have the means (either language or technical knowledger barrier) to solve problems themselves.</p>
<p>Slovenian has been <mark>among the top translated languages for a while</mark>, which is quite impressive considering there are only <strong>2 million native speakers</strong> and we don&apos;t have a big pool to get translators from.&#xA0;We operate an <a href="http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=ubuntu-si&amp;ref=davidplanella.org">IRC channel</a>, <a href="https://www.ubuntu.si/?ref=davidplanella.org">website</a>, <a href="https://www.ubuntu.si/punbb/?ref=davidplanella.org">forum</a>, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/UbuntuSlovenija">Facebook</a>, <a href="https://twitter.com/ubuntusi?ref=davidplanella.org">Twitter</a> and <a href="https://plus.google.com/u/0/102988126414371172909/?ref=davidplanella.org">Google+</a> page. Offline we meet at <strong>monthly Ubuntu hours</strong> and we do <strong>Global Jams</strong> &#x1F603;</p>
<h3 id="whatkindofeventareyouorganizingfortheupcomingubuntuglobaljamugj">What kind of event are you organizing for the upcoming Ubuntu Global Jam (UGJ)?</h3>
<p>We are mostly going to focus on <strong>translations</strong>. This has traditionally been our strong point, as we <strong>exceeded 90% translation</strong> of Ubuntu about 2 years ago. Now we are focusing on translation <strong>quality and consistency</strong>. This time we want to put <strong>extra polish into translation for the LTS</strong>.</p>
<p>In addition to that, a couple of people will focus on <strong>creating videos explaining how to perform basic tasks in Ubuntu</strong> (installing Ubuntu, Installing/removing software,&#xA0;Unity &quot;tricks&quot;...) and <strong>how to contribute to Ubuntu</strong> (how to start translating in Launchpad, how to report a bug, common translation mistakes in Slovenian).</p>
<p>We will also be <strong>testdriving Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and report bugs</strong> we find on the way. More info can be found in our <a href="https://www.ubuntu.si/2012/02/prvi-ubuntu-global-jam-v-letu-2012/?ref=davidplanella.org">Ubuntu Global Jam announcement</a>&#xA0;(in&#xA0;Slovenian only).</p>
<h3 id="isthisthefirstugjeventyoureorganizing">Is this the first UGJ event you&apos;re organizing?</h3>
<p>Nope. We have <strong>already organized 3 Ubuntu Global Jams</strong>. The first one was online only and the last two have been organized offline. We are quite lucky to have <a href="http://www.kiberpipa.org/en/about/?ref=davidplanella.org">Kiberpipa</a>, which has kindly been providing us a&#xA0;great venue with a lot of space and internet access. So we mostly need to do marketing of the event, coordinate transport and grab some pizzas &#x1F603;.</p>
<h3 id="howdoyouthinkugjeventshelptheubuntucommunityandubuntu">How do you think UGJ events help the Ubuntu community and Ubuntu?</h3>
<p>The results of previous UGJs have typically meant about <mark>4,000 to 5,000 translated messages</mark> for us, which is amazing for one day.</p>
<blockquote>
<p>Slovenian has been among the top translated languages for a while, which is quite impressive considering there are only 2 million native speakers. Good translation coverage helps to grow Ubuntu usage in Slovenia.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>We have also managed to report a couple of bugs which improved overall quality.</p>
<p>More importantly, in average <strong>about 15 people attend</strong> our global jam, so we meet and hang out with people we usually only see online. This vastly <strong>improves team cohesiveness</strong>. In addition there are always some newcomers, which is fantastic for community growth.</p>
<p>Also, it&apos;s fun &#x1F603;.</p>

<h1>Getting ready for the Jam</h1>
It&apos;s less than two weeks before our ever amazing community joins around the globe to have a good time while improving the <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickReleaseSchedule?ref=davidplanella.org">incoming Ubuntu release</a>, 10.10, codenamed the Maverick Meerkat.
<p>The <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam?ref=davidplanella.org">Ubuntu Global Jam</a> is a great opportunity to contribute to your favourite OS in any area you can participate in. There are plenty of proposed activities, such as <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Bugs?ref=davidplanella.org">Bugs</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Testing?ref=davidplanella.org">Testing</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Upgrade?ref=davidplanella.org">Upgrade</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Docs?ref=davidplanella.org">Documentation</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Translations?ref=davidplanella.org">Translations</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Packaging?ref=davidplanella.org">Packaging</a>, but it does not have to stop at that. Why not propose your own activities, or run meetings related to them? Marketing, advocacy... your imagination is the limit.</p>
<h1>We want to hear about your events!</h1>
<a href="https://davidplanella.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ubuntu_global_jam_badge_ca.png"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-505" title="Ubuntu Global Jam" src="https://davidplanella.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ubuntu_global_jam_badge_ca.png" alt="I&apos;m going to the Ubuntu Global Jam" width="200" height="200"></a>So far <a href="http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/global/195/detail/?ref=davidplanella.org">there are already 14 teams</a> registered at the <a href="http://loco.ubuntu.com/?ref=davidplanella.org">LoCo Directory</a> for the Ubuntu Global Jam. It would be really cool to have a representation from as many LoCos as possible, so if you are still thinking about running a jam, or if you haven&apos;t added your event, why not go for it? There is still time!
<p>Adding a new Ubuntu Global Jam event in the LoCo Directory is really easy: it should not take you more than two minutes to do it, it will give more visibility to your LoCo, help people find a jam near them, and assist you with the planning.</p>
<p>Here&apos;s how you can add your Global Jam event:</p>
<ol type="1">
	<li><strong>Go to loco.ubuntu.com</strong> - Go to the <a href="http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/global/195/detail/?ref=davidplanella.org">Ubuntu Global Jam event</a> in the LoCo Directory</li>
	<li><strong>Log in</strong> - If you already haven&apos;t, <a href="http://loco.ubuntu.com/openid/login?next=%2Fevents%2Fglobal%2F195%2Fdetail%2F&amp;ref=davidplanella.org">log in</a> to the LoCo Directory with your Launchpad ID</li>
	<li><strong>Add the event</strong> - <a href="http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/team/add/?global_event_id=195&amp;ref=davidplanella.org">Add your team&apos;s event</a></li>
</ol>
That&apos;s it, you&apos;re now part of the rocking list of LoCos running an Ubuntu Global Jam :).
<p>I&apos;m sure it&apos;s going to be once more an awesome event. Don&apos;t forget to show off how your team is rocking by taking pictures and telling everyone about it. We&apos;d like to hear as many fun stories about the Ubuntu Global Jam as possible!</p>
<p>See you at the Jam!</p>

There are plenty of activities to choose this time (<a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Bugs?ref=davidplanella.org">Bugs</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Testing?ref=davidplanella.org">Testing</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Upgrade?ref=davidplanella.org">Upgrade</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Docs?ref=davidplanella.org">Documentation</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Translations?ref=davidplanella.org">Translations</a>, <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Packaging?ref=davidplanella.org">Packaging</a>). Be creative!
<p>And do remember to <a href="http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/team/add/?ref=davidplanella.org">add your event</a> to the LoCo Directory as well.</p>
<p>If you&apos;ve never run a jam, do join us on IRC in <tt>#ubuntu-locoteams</tt> and ask questions, or even better, check out Jono&apos;s videocast and the <a href="http://www.jonobacon.org/2010/03/16/ubuntu-global-jam-time-to-rock-the-house/?ref=davidplanella.org">easy steps on how to organize and run one</a>. We&apos;ve also been running some <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam?ref=davidplanella.org#TrainingSessions">training sessions</a> on IRC you might find interesting.</p>
<p>As <a href="http://blogs.fsfe.org/rcarreras/?p=87&amp;ref=davidplanella.org">Rafael nicely put it</a>, the <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CatalanTeam?ref=davidplanella.org">Catalan team</a> will be rocking it again this time round, with Translations, Testing, Upgrading and surely with improvisation</p>
<p>By the way, how many of you are going to be running translation jams? Has anyone got any tips or experiences to share? We&apos;d like to hear them!</p>

<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexm/3978175164/sizes/l/in/set-72157622384284789/?ref=davidplanella.org"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-234" title="3978175164_27d657e183" src="https://davidplanella.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/3978175164_27d657e183.jpg" alt width="480" height="269"></a></p>
<p>As our vibrant community grows, we&apos;re also expanding the types of jams, to make sure everyone can pick one suited to their tastes. Here is our variety of flavours this time:</p>
<ul>
	<li><strong><a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Bugs?ref=davidplanella.org">Bugs</a></strong> - find, triage, squeeze and help fixing those annoying little bugs.</li>
	<li><strong><a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Testing?ref=davidplanella.org">Testing</a></strong> - with your testing Lucid is going to be a top notch release.</li>
	<li><strong><a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Upgrade?ref=davidplanella.org">Upgrade</a></strong> - contribute making the upgrading to Lucid from Hardy or Karmic a smooth experience for everyone.</li>
	<li><strong><a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Docs?ref=davidplanella.org">Documentation</a></strong> - spread the knowledge on Ubuntu and on participating in the Community, help documenting it.</li>
	<li><strong><a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Translations?ref=davidplanella.org">Translations</a></strong> - join the awesome Ubuntu translations community and make the Lynx speak your language.</li>
	<li><strong><a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Packaging?ref=davidplanella.org">Packaging</a></strong> - follow the path of the legendary Ubuntu developers and learn how to package software.</li>
	<li><strong>Other</strong> - be creative! suggest your own type of jam! marketing, artwork, advocacy... you name it.</li>
</ul>
One very important point is to note that these are only suggestions, and not every LoCo will run every type of Jam. The main thing is to spend some good time hanging out with your friends while making Ubuntu rock harder.
<p>You&apos;ll find all you need to know about the jam at</p>
<ul>
	<li><a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam?ref=davidplanella.org">https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam</a></li>
</ul>
If that weren&apos;t enough, the awesome <a href="http://castrojo.wordpress.com/?ref=davidplanella.org">Jorge Castro</a> will be running a series of <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam?ref=davidplanella.org#Training%20Sessions">training sessions</a> to help you getting started if you&apos;ve never run a jam before.
<p>We&apos;d like to see you there, see <a href="http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=all&amp;q=ugj&amp;m=tags&amp;ref=davidplanella.org">you and your people&apos;s beautiful pictures</a> and <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam/Stories?ref=davidplanella.org">hear your stories</a>, so remember to <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam/Events?ref=davidplanella.org">add your event</a> and get ready for the jam!</p>

<p>So you wanted to get involved in Ubuntu and to deliver it to millions in their own language, I hear? This will be your chance:</p>
<ul>
	<li><strong>WHAT</strong>: Ubuntu Global Jam: Translations</li>
	<li><strong>WHEN</strong>: the <strong>2nd to 4th October</strong> 2009 weekend</li>
	<li><strong>PREPARATIONS</strong>: Third Thursday of every month (next meeting is <a href="http://fridge.ubuntu.com/calendar?ref=davidplanella.org"><strong>Thu 18th June</strong> 2009 at 18:00 UTC</a>) at #ubuntu-meeting on <a href="http://freenode.net/?ref=davidplanella.org">Freenode</a></li>
</ul>
I&apos;ve started a section on <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/Translations?ref=davidplanella.org">running translation jams</a> in our wiki, and I&apos;ll be adding more content there in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for updates.
<p>Wow, there&apos;s even <a href="http://effiejayx.wordpress.com/2009/06/16/how-do-you-say-jams-in-your-country/?ref=davidplanella.org">some folks</a> who have already started translating the <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/ES?ref=davidplanella.org">jam</a> <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Jams/IT?ref=davidplanella.org">pages</a> themselves!</p>
<p>Fantastic.</p>
